Letter: "Insignificant" Stones should close concert after Beatles

NME has published a letter from its archives detailing the Beatles and Rolling Stones appearance at the mag's 1964 Pollwinners concert at Wembley Arena.

Organizers arranged for the Beatles to perform before the NME's poll awards were passed out, fearing that allowing the Fab Four to close the show would result in a "mass scrum."

Instead, it was decided one of the more "insignifcant" groups on the bill would play last - namely the-not-yet-huge Rolling Stones.
